The past week has been fun. I didn’t get a ton of workouts in, but it was Halloween, we got to set our clocks back an hour, and I had a somewhat successful long run today. Lets catch up:
Monday/Tuesday – My hip was really sore after the MCM10k last Sunday. I decided to pass on yoga and to take the week off from running. It makes me nervous to skip runs, because I have 2 races coming up, but I could barely walk so I knew I needed it. Now workouts on Monday or Tuesday.
Wednesday – Back to Body Pump! I hadn’t been since Oct 10th! 2.5 weeks!! I knew it would be tough, but I was glad I went. My hip was still sore, but surprisingly didn’t hurt much during the actual exercises. The transitions hurt the worst, especially moving from right leg lunges to left leg lunges, but it really wasn’t too bad. My favorite instructor was teaching and it was a new release so that also helped me to get through it. And it was great working out with Sam again!
Thursday/Friday – No workout. I was going to swim on Thursday, but realized I had lost my goggles. I checked the lost and found at the pool, but no such luck. Yeah, I probably could have gone ahead with no goggles, but it sounded like a good enough excuse to pass. Friday, I didn’t have any workouts planned and kept it that way.
Saturday – On Saturday morning, Sam and I went to pump again. It feels good to be back in a routine! My hip was feeling a lot better too. Not 100%, but much better than Monday! After pump, we got into full Halloween mode. Michael Myers decided to make an appearance at the intersection of 235 and Buck Hewitt Road. Anyone who knows my family, knows how much we love Halloween.
We went back home so everyone could get ready for Halloween night. Makayla was Harley Quinn. I decorated Gabby’s face as a sugar skull/day of the dead. My mom altered an old costume dress for her to wear. They both looked great. Of course Steven and I joined in on the fun. Jason, Steven, and I all dressed up to scare the trick-or-treaters. My brother also helped out with scaring kids for a little while until he took my nephew around the neighborhood. Even my father helped out for a little bit, but I think he was a little overwhelmed and had to head inside. Grammy, Pappy, Melissa, and Aunt Sue handed out candy, while Maw Maw walked around the neighborhood with Gabby & Skylar. Makayla had a bunch of friends come over and they all went together. I was having a hard time narrowing down the pictures so I apologize for the overload.
What a fun night! Sam texted me that night saying she was planning to run at 9:00 on Sunday morning. I was unsure if I was going to join her at that point and told her to text me in the morning before her run.
Sunday – I woke up Sunday morning and thought there was no way I would be ready to run by 9:00. Luckily, Sam texted me and said it would be more like 10:00 before she was ready. I was definitely NOT feeling a run today. Partly because I was tired, my hip was still tender, and I knew I ate poorly on Saturday. I knew I wanted to get in another long run before the Richmond half in 2 weeks though and next weekend, I have the 10k Across the Bay. So, it was now or never. It was raining out so I considered passing and just trying to get it in later, but if I postponed my run, I would have had to go solo and I didn’t want to do that! So, I told Sam I would join her. We initially wanted to run 10 miles this weekend, but with the way we were feeling, we decided to run 8. The run felt better than I expected. It was tough and my hip was tender, but not terrible. We hit a few crosswalk lights and also stopped for a couple of minutes at our turnaround point (mile 4). I had worn a jacket and was so hot. The rain had let up so I stopped to take it off and wrap it around my waist and then we started running at 4.15 again. He hit a couple of crosswalk lights on the way back as well, but then got into a good rhythm & finished strong.
I am feeling a little better about my upcoming races. My hip is still tender, but I will not be trying to PR at either of these races. I am just looking to have some fun race weekends and am looking forward to cheering my mom on in her first 10k.
QOTD – Do you still dress up for Halloween?
Glad you’ll be there to cheer me on . Not sure if I’ll be running or crawling across the finish line .
