Today has been a great day! Its actually been a pretty great weekend in general.
FRIDAY
On Friday, I took the girls back to school shopping. Shopping is not my favorite thing to do, but it was nice to spend the day with my girls. I didn’t work out today, unless you count walking around Tanger Outlets all day. I was exhausted by the end of the day.
SATURDAY
On Saturday morning, Sam and I took Body Pump at Maximum again. I like getting our workout in early and having the rest of the day to do whatever I want. And I did just that! I relaxed out at my pool for a couple hours and then went to get a pedicure. Its a rough life!
Saturday night, Makayla talked her Pappy into taking her to skate night. Gabby didn’t want to go so I decided to spend the evening with her. Her and I walked around Solomon’s Island and then went to Sweet Frog afterwards for dessert. Yum!
I went to bed fairly early (or at least tried to but the TV kept me up for a bit). I knew I was in for a LONG (but fun) day on Sunday!
SUNDAY
My alarm went off at 7:00 on Sunday morning. Sam and I had to get our 7 miles in early so we had time to make our next appointment. After eating a yogurt and half a banana, I met up with Sam and at 7:30, we were on our way to our favorite Saturday morning running spot. I ate a Cliff Shot energy gel (Strawberry) on the way. Sam and I both felt good on todays run. We were actually struggling a little bit to hold back. We want our Sunday runs to be a little slower since we know we have a further distance to cover. We always suck at keeping a slower pace, but it worked out today since we were both feeling good and had plenty of energy to finish the run. We didn’t stop to walk at all today. Well, I guess that’s not totally true. We wanted to take a picture along the route so we briefly stopped to take a quick selfie.
After our run, we discovered a 1.5 mile trail near the drill hall. We investigated it a bit while we were cooling down. We may try it out someday if we need to add on a little bit of mileage to the end of the run. Its always fun to find new running routes. We went home and had to get ready for our 11:30 appointment for SUP at Potomac SUP & Fitness!
Sam and I took Makayla and Natalee paddle boarding last year at the very end of summer and we had a great time. It was something I knew I wanted to do again, but we have just been so busy that we haven’t been able to fit it in. Gabby was upset with me that I didn’t take her last year (I thought she was too young) so I promised that I would take her this year. So, Sam and I loaded up the van with Natalee, Makayla, Gabby, and Lilee and off we went. We had a blast out on the water today. It was such a beautiful day and the water was very calm. Gabby caught on very quickly and Lilee shared a board with Sam. The girls all got to jump in the water and we even had some time for a little bit of yoga! Sorry for the picture overload, but I just couldn’t narrow them down any further. And yes, that is me in a yoga pose on a paddle board (right before falling forward and hitting my head and almost landing in the water).
SUP is not only fun, but a great workout! It’s definitely something I want to do more often.
After SUP, we were invited to one of my bestie’s house (Lori) for dinner. Her (Italian) mom is in town and the two of them sure do put on an excellent spread!! The food and the company were great! I really wish I would have taken a picture of all the good food, but I’m still getting used to taking pictures for my blog. A picture of Lori’s squad (I’m learning cool words like that from my teenager) would have been nice too, but I left with no pictures. Lori and I have decided that we must do this more often. It was a fabulous end to a fabulous weekend!
This upcoming week is going to be a busy one. School is starting for the kids and I find that this is a good time to get everyone back into a good routine. This includes getting back to home cooked meals. We have been eating out a LOT and I plan to cook a lot more this week. I do not enjoy cooking and I really struggle with finding healthy recipes that my picky kids will also enjoy. I am going to attempt to cook at home at least 3 times this week. This should be interesting…
QUESTION OF THE DAY: What is your “go to” healthy dinner recipe?
In the summer, Sam N. and I love to grill chicken breasts or lean steak and put slices on top of salads. The kids don’t like it. We’d have that for dinner every day if it wasn’t for them. In the cooler months, we discovered stuffing chicken with cauliflower instead of rice and I enjoy sliced roasted cabbage (nobody else does). I want to go vegetarian again but it’s hard. Oh! And we also do veggie stir fry with chicken or steak, it’s quick and easy.
Had a blast today!
