So happy that Thursday is here. My work week is over, I am feeling good about this week’s workouts, and I have absolutely nothing planned for tomorrow. Yay me! Sam and I started talking about our Fall race goals tonight so I have decided it time to say mine “out loud”. Its kind of scary. First, let me recap my workouts this week:
MONDAY
On Monday night, I took a yoga class. It felt good to get back at it. I take a class at Maximum Health and Fitness. Enid is a wonderful instructor. I had missed a couple of weeks so some of the tracks were new to me. I found them pretty challenging (especially the strength and abs track), but in a good way. Sorry I don’t have any pictures to go along but my downward dog is not very pretty anyway ;o)
TUESDAY
Tuesday night, we had Gabby’s Swim Award Banquet. Once again, Sam and I tried to get our run in before work, and once again we failed. Getting up at 5:00 a.m. is so hard! So, after work I went straight to the gym and hit the treadmill for 4 miles. I had to go solo because of my time constraints so I just watched an episode of Scandal while I ran. The run felt pretty good and I was done just in time to pick Steven and Gabby up and head to the banquet. The banquet was fun! Gabby got her ribbons from the invitational, an invitational t-shirt for her 2nd place relay, and they were all given an Elks bag. Very nice! They had some fun relays (including Gabby being raced in a chair by 2 other girls from one end of the pool to the other) and then they took down the lane lines and let the kids swim. We are going to miss summer swim!
WEDNESDAY
Finally, I made it back to Body Pump after missing 2 classes last week! Sam and I went together. And let me tell you, it was tough!! There was a new release and I found the leg tracks to be very difficult. Lots of “lower half” squat repeats. My legs were shaking the entire class. Funny how tough it can be after missing only 2 classes!
THURSDAY
The alarm went off bright and early at 5:00 a.m. And what did I do? I texted Sam and said (in a nutshell) “No way” and went back to bed. I take full responsibility for missing this one 🙂 I did NOT want to get out of bed! I knew I had nothing planned for Thursday evening so I knew I could get my run in later. We decided to run at 7:30 p.m. and the only question was whether or not the weather would cooperate for an outside run. I don’t mind running in light rain, but am terrified of running in a thunderstorm and prefer not to run in heavy rain. Luckily, the rain cleared up altogether, and we were able to head outdoors for a 4-miler. We were both suffering from sore “body pump” legs, so it was tough. But we made it through. We even ran both hills without stopping, which I had my doubts about considering how sore my legs were. I may not be able to walk tomorrow!
FALL RACE GOALS
After our run tonight, Sam and I chatted a little bit about our Fall race goals. I really only have 2 that I can think of now. I’m a little nervous about putting them “out there”, but what’s the worst that can happen?
- Run 15 races. I ran 14 races in 2014, so why not shoot for 15 races in 2015. I’ve already got 9 complete, and I’m signed up for 2 races so far this Fall (with my eye on a couple more). This goal shouldn’t be too hard to meet. There are a couple of local 5k’s at the end of the year that can help me reach my goal. Hmm…I wonder how long I continue this? I don’t see me doing 25 races in 2025. Just saying.
- Finish a half marathon in under 2:10. Yikes. This is the one I am scared of. My current PR is 2:12:07. 2 minutes and 8 seconds is all I need to shave off. That doesn’t sound like much, does it?? But it is!! Last year, 3 out of 4 of my half marathons were within 13 seconds of each other. Crawlin’ Crab half marathon is *supposed* to be pretty flat, so I would LOVE to reach my goal at that race, but only time will tell. I know I need to incorporate some speed work into my training and I plan to do just that. I will keep you posted on how that goes. I’m just not sure if these short legs of mine will go much faster!
There you have it. I said it, and now I need to make it happen!!
QUESTION OF THE DAY: What are your fitness related goals?
I know you can do it ! You’re stubborn like your mother. My goal is 5 races in 2015. Two 5KS down three to go . I know one will be the 10k over the Baybridge. The other two will be whatever I can find . Hopefully one of each . Kim you are an inspiration to me . Keep up the good work !!

Thanks mom! I’m proud of you! There is an 8k in Richmond in mid-November. Sam did it last year, while I ran the marathon. This year we are both planning to do the half. Check it out. Also there are 2 5ks is Solomons in late Nov/early Dec. Wobble before you Gobble and Jingle Bell run.
